It feels like forever since I have blogged last, my apologies. In the season where the sun should still be shining and sunblock should be heavily applied…….. I was in bed with a hideous bout of the flu. Thankfully it was short lasting and I was able to bounce back with enough energy to be the goof that my wee girl laughs at. I have previously underestimated the energy that pulling faces, singing and dancing requires until I was stuck in bed. Much to her delight I am back in full force ….aiming to please.
Before my snuffles and groans I have to mention the amazing night I had with my husband, enabled by my fabulous mum and stepdads babisitting services.
My husband and I have been together since school. During our (almost) decade ,we have grown with eachother; experienced drunken teenageness in all its glories and experienced adulthood in all its boringness. Weekends that used to be about dressing up and drinking up are now replaced by milo and early nights…..hardly the hangover causing excitement we began with. But Saturday brought it all back. So many people have told me to make sure there is ‘Josh and Me time”. I honestly, thought we had heaps of that already but I have learnt that watching a movie or eating dinner at home isn’t what they were talking about, Saturday was!!!
We had a night OUT together, just him and me. Drinking, dancing with the glitz and glamour of teenageness with a touch more class. We had a 21st to go to, one that reminded me that I’m not just Edies mum, not just Josh’s wife but his best friend and that I can be FUN still! We danced (terribly I have to add), we partied and I felt such a sense of ME that it was the most amazing night. The best thing about this time together was realising how much we are still smitten with each other and the life that we have. We have grown up but grown together, such a perfect feeling.
Looking back now whilst blogging its easy to see that time has changed us. Instead of the rush to a pub after the party we were excited about rushing home to our girl!! . No need for a 3am drunken trip to McDonalds, no need for a panadol before bed, we were both home..sober and on the biggest high ever…..US. Elated by our family.
I learnt that nights like Saturday are important, to feel like the individuals that make up the family and not just the roles within the family. It is about dressing up and getting away from what you know everyday so you can totally appreciate it. I am truly blessed, this I knew but how amazing that one Saturday could reiterate it so much more. Until the next night out, I am totally content and so incredible happy with my life. This Saturday Ill have my milo and smile!!
I just love being me, his wife and her mum!!
